It is the center of the Turkish Government, and houses all foreign embassies. It is an important crossroads of trade, strategically located at the center of Turkey’s highway and railway networks, and serves as the marketing center for the surrounding agricultural area. The city was famous for its long-haired Angora goat and its prized wool (mohair), a unique breed of cat (Angora cat), white rabbits and their prized wool (Angora wool), pears, honey, and the region’s musket grapes. Ankara is one of the driest places in Turkey and is surrounded by barren steppe vegetation, with various Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman archaeological sites. It has a harsh, dry continental climate with cold, snowy winters and hot, dry summers. To learn more things about Ankara, you can check the website: www.ankara.gov.tr

In the centre of social services there are not only daycare group for handicap people, who come every day, but also every Tuesday there come around 30 more people with disabilities of various age who come from the districts and 10:30 h to 15:30 h they also join the activities, like ceramics, arts, handicrafts, physical activities, quilt sewing, etc. There is a psychologist who consults individually, carries out group activities and relaxation sessions.
Clients choose the activities individually according to their hobbies. Wednesdays there is another group of 7 people who come – 4 people have physical disabilities – cannot walk, the rest have psychical disability but are partially independent, they can take care of their hygiene, dressing up, eating. Every Friday three more people with psychical disability come over and join ceramics workshops.
In the children daycare center there come around 8 kids everyday at age 8-16, most of them are boys. They can use computers, do their homework, play ping-pong, basketball, board games, do handicrafts, prepare various celebrations, puppet theater plays, etc. It is safe environment for them after school where they can improve their creative abilities, learn to communicate in more constructive way and have means to more constructive leisure time then that at home or on the street.
All in all, here at the Center people having social or medical problems have an opportunity to develop communication and self-expression skills. When they take part in various activities provided at the Center, they improve their social relations, they also can train better their sensory systems and they do not feel so lonely.
Volunteers‘ role at children daycare center: Volunteers will be able to play with the children various games: ping-pong, basketball, outdoor games and table games. Help in handicrafts for children: paper folding, leather ware works, ceramics, quilt sewing, clay figures, making dolls for the theater. Children together with workers create puppet theater plays and acts. Children daycare center attendants organizes various celebrations, for example: Christmas, Carnival, Easter celebrations. Volunteers will be invited to help in organizing these events: making of decorations together with children, create theater plays, act. We will need help in organizing birthday celebrations for kids. We expect that volunteers will introduce us to their country, culture, traditions and customs. Volunteers role at the daycare center for people with handicap: Volunteer will help to organize activities for for people with disabilities. For dependent people (for those who have both – physical and mental disabilities) volunteer will help to dress up, eat, help in personal hygiene, communicate. For people who only have physical disabilities volunteer will help to participate in activities of the daycare center: ceramics workshops, arts, wood works, quilt sewing, handicrafts; to help to prepare working place and to clean it in the end. In the physical activities volunteer together with clients will play darts, checkers, help to make easy physical movments. Volunteer will also be invited to join these activities of the centre: organizing and preparing various events, trips to concerts, gatherings of people with physical handicap. To join in everyday activities of arts. Volunteers will be able to help to organize summer camps. There will be space given to the volunteers initiative – to teach handicrafts of their country which we do not have, traditional cooking. Volunteers will be able to organize birthday party for the kids with games and entertainment, sport match with other children daycare centres, picknick in the nature (by the lake) with games, etc.

It is very important that volunteers applying to this project would be aware of people with disabilities, to have at least a bit of contact before arrival, because it might be shocking. All groups of clients are separated, yet very close to each other and often doing things together. Another important aspect – volunteer should be willing to live in peaceful small town with limited socialization possibilities. Though the social centre staff is small and very hospitable, be aware that only 1-2 people speak English and in the town Lithuanian is a must. And for those who apply to the children daycare centre – little children stick to volunteers quite quickly, but the older ones do not easily trust people. What volunteer would be succesful in the project? Communicative, open-minded, loving people and spend lots of time with them – you should like a lot various handicrafts, to be in small and peaceful local community, to like people with disabilities and children, variuos events for families and older people.

Please write an email to milda.patria@gmail.com and I’ll send you application form. Please do it until 10th April the latest. Please indicate in the letter: to which placement do you apply: children daycare centre or daycare group for people with disabilities? And what is your sending organization. Thank you very very much and looking forward to your applications!

Vacantes EVS en Croacia, en organización IKS!

The mission of the Association IKS is: Developing community by strengthening civil society, promoting information technology and socio-economic empowerment of marginalized citizens. Strategic guidelines of our association for the period 2012-2014 are: 1. Promote volunteer work to improve communities; 2. Development of Civil Society; 3. Social entrepreneurship and employment; 4. Organizational DevelopmentIf you want to know more about us, you should check out our web page: http://www.udrugaiks.hr/ Anyway, we have a lot of experience in EVS projects and we want to carry that experience even further. So here are some basics concerning this project.

ImageImage
The project would start in September 2014 and it would last for one year. The main theme are puppets and puppet theatre. Volunteers would pruduce puppets, make shows for children in our local community and make videos for the “Puppet TV”.

Here’s the summary of the project:

With the help of the staff and local volunteers at Association IKS, EVS volunteers will make hand puppets (Muppet puppet) for educational purposes, they will also prepare scenarios and scenary for the Puppet theatre. The puppets will present an amusing and innovative way to transfer new knowledge and messages to children on topics such as: human rights, children’s rights, gender equality, women’s rights, antidiscrimination, culture and similar. The puppet/doll is a friend of the child with the help of which they analyse the world around them and within themselves. It makes a significant impact on the child and many times the puppet has a stronger influence than that of the authority/teacher. Puppet plays develop children’s curiosity and creative thinking and unobtrusively encourage their own expression. EVS volunteers will use the puppets they make to record them and produce Puppet videos that we will put on our YouTube chanel.

The EVS volunteers will, in an existing production workshop in IKS, make hand-made dolls mostly from locally produced raw and recycled materials, visually tailored to the target group of children and will cover all aspects of receiving and processing new information.
In addition, EVS volunteers will learn Croatian language and lead creative workshops in our Community centre for children and adults. Also, they would have enough free time to enjoy beautiful city of Petrinja and its nature.

Envíanos tu carta de motivación y cv en inglés a ingrid.unmundoatuspies@gmail.com antes del 12 de abril de 2014.

Organisation: Millennium Center

Place: Arad / Romania

Project type: Mobility Project for Young People and Youth Workers

Title: “Meetings with Languages”.

The idea: The complex project has in aim to fight youth unemployment by developing necessary competences during EVS stage for the volunteers to become competitive at job market.

Activities: The EVS project will have two stages of total lenght of 5 months:

First step: long term training course (1 month) increased and intense Romanian language course combined with complex and unique non-formal education training course for EVS volunteers to get necessary competences in teaching languages with the use of non-formal methods as scheme of their future work with 3 different target groups

Second step: (4 months) EVS volunteers are using skills and abilities obtained at first stage to multiply the result of own learning by teaching others English language and/or national languages using non-formal methods

Stages (5 months) will be in 2 periods:

Stage A: starts in 1st of September 2014 – 31 th of January 2015

Stage B: starts  in 1st of February  2015 – 30th   of June 2015

Methods: non formal way of education (learning by doing) and e-learning (working in virtual space) with elements of hand craft

Tasks and objectives:

ü  EVS volunteers to organize on weekly basis language courses with elements on non-formal education for 3 different target groups.

ü  To gather at least 5 people from each target group to participate in at least 3 consecutive language workshops

ü  Promotion of Erasmus plus and non-formal education

ü  Integration to local neighbourhood

ü  Gaining skills to be independent unit at job market

Outcomes: Future EVS volunteers will learn how to become non-formal teacher of languages.

Target groups and beneficiaries: EVS volunteers will have a task to approach 3 different target groups:

a)      Kids from (0-18) – teaching languages by usage of hand craft

b)      Youth and adults (18 -50) – teaching languages using non formal methods of education

c)       Elderly (50+) – teaching languages by using e-learning methods

The point of having 3 different target groups is for the EVS volunteers to learn better all possible methods of work while teaching languages and on the same time, filling in the needs of learning methods adapted to target groups. Kids are in the need of craft work – this is the most popular and desirable method of work with this target group. Youth and adults are in need of learning non-formal methods of work after leaving school and formal education. Elderly are in the need of get in touch with IT technologies in order not to stay behind with IT and stay competitive at job market which becomes crucial at that age …

Results: the main aim of the project is to train EVS volunteers and verify in practice their abilities. Learning of how to be language teacher using the whole range of methods, with underlining their non-formal character and use these skills and abilities gained during EVS stage is for volunteers a start to become more competitive at job market back home (after EVS) or in any other EU country. Project is addressed to young people with fewer opportunities on the basis of long term unemployment.

Inspiration: project’s idea is based on multilingualism as the languages have prior role for people to become competitive at job market – it is one of the cornerstone of EU strategies because lack of language skills is the main obstacle of getting a good job as well as prevents from better education outside of own country of residence. The project is also a part of MC strategy of creating career center for young people. Career center is the facility where not only young people can get advises of how to create own career but most of all how to get new skills and abilities needed to be competitive at job market – no matter country.

Final materials: good practice guide with elements of diary – how to become non-formal teacher of languages 2014.
